What is a style in Word?

A style is a set of formatting options (font, size, color, line spacing, etc.) that can be quickly applied to text to give it a consistent appearance.

The Style Gallery in Word allows quick access to predefined styles.

Steps: Clear the Style Gallery and Keep Only the “Normal” Style

  1. 🧭 Open Word and go to the “Home” tab
This is where you’ll find the Style Gallery.

  2. 🔍 Identify the Style Gallery
It’s located in the “Styles” group, with names like “Heading 1”, “Subtitle”, “Emphasis”, etc.

  3. 🗑 Remove the displayed styles
To remove a style from the gallery (without deleting it from the document), follow these steps:

Method:

  • Right-click on a style in the gallery.

  • Select “Remove from Style Gallery.”

💡 Repeat this for each style, except “Normal.”

  1. Keep only the “Normal” style
The “Normal” style is usually already present and cannot be deleted. Make sure it remains visible.

  2. 💾 (Optional) Save as a template
If you want to reuse this configuration:

File > Save As > Word Template (*.dotx)

Give it a name (e.g., “SimpleGalleryTemplate.dotx”)

When opening a new document based on this template, only the simplified gallery will be displayed.
